Boys and girls good morning!
Euroleague round 1 is over with Real Madrid, CSKA Moscow and Fenerbahce (the best 3 European teams) winning their matches, while my poor Maccabi Tel Aviv lost in Milano by 2 points. So, no big surprises in this round, but I suggest (once again) to look at Darussafaka Istanbul as the Turkish team won in Belgrade on Thursday night.
Well, you can read all the reports and analysis of Euroleague round 1 on euroleague.net or in some other good website, the web is full of good basketball resources, but what I want to ask you (and to myself too) is : what will we see in Euroleague round 2? These are the 8 scheduled matches:
Thursday, October 20
18:45 Olympiacos – Anadolu Efes
20:00 Brose – Unics Kazan
20:05 Maccabi – Real Madrid
20:45 Darussafaka – Milano
Friday, October 21
19:00 CSKA Moscow – Panathinaikos
19:00 Galatasaray – Crvena Zvezda
19:00 Zalgiris Kaunas – Baskonia
21:00 Barcelona – Fenerbahce
🏀 OLIMPIACOS – EFES – Both clubs lost in round 1, so this is a key match for them. Probably the Greek team can have and help by home court, but I also want to underline that in Olympiacos starting five we still find Vassilis Spanoulis, a wonderful, but not so young player. What does it mean? It means that I don’t trust too much in Olympiacos way of managing the roster.
🏀 BROSE – UNICS KAZAN – Another game with two team still with 0 wins in this Euroleague season. Anyway I want to remmeber that Brose faced Fenerbache, while Unics lost with Barcelona, two of the strongest teams in Europe. I see a great future for Andrea Trinchieri‘s boys. Brose can get a playoff spot and, probably can defeat Unics on Thursday.
🏀 MACCABI TEL AVIV – REAL MADRID – What a match for Maccabi! The Israeli team has a big problem: the defence. Can Real player Sergio Llull destroy this defence? Unfortunately he can.
🏀 DARUSSAFAKA – ARMANI MILANO– Can someone please tell to the Italian media that Armani Milano just won a match and not the title? Italian newspapers are out of order after the lucky win against Maccabi. Alessandro Gentile and friends now face Darussafaka, in Istanbul. An heavy loss of Milano will be useful for Italian media to undertand that their beloved Olimpia can not fight for the title.
🏀 CSKA MOSCOW – PANATHINAIKOS -Back the Russians, don’t make the same mistakes of US President Barak Obama.
🏀 GALATASARAY – CRVENA ZVEZDA -You know I love Jugobasket, so I always hope to see teams ad Crvena Zvezda winning their games, but this is a match not easy to understand. I mean, Galatasaray has a lot of problems, but also Dejan Radunjic team has to improve a lot.
🏀 ZALGIRIS KAUNAS – BASKONIA – I wrote some weeks ago: Zalgiris can fight for the Lithuanian title, nothing more. By the way, did you notice that in Euroleague Round 1 all the 3 Spanish teams won their games? Today at the top of Euroleague standings we find 3 Spanish teams.
🏀 BARCELONA – FENERBAHCE – Last week I lost my bet on Unics – Barcelona. I apologise for this mistake, but, you know, I can not win every bet. Bookmakers will be to angry with me. Anyway, I am curious to see the odds for this match as it’s not easy to find a clear favorite here. I don’t know what we will see in Catalunya on Friday, but I know that a win by Ante Tomic and friends would bring Barcelona at the top in the Euroleague title race.
Waiting for Euroleague round 2 odds,
I wish you a peaceful weekend
